Maritime domain awareness pertains to security, safety, economy, environment, exploration and research. Underlying these many aspects is the effective understanding of anything associated with the global maritime domain. Evolving technologies in mapping, tracking and visualization provide many essential tools leading to effective understanding. The Maritime Alliance is pleased to partner with sponsor Esri to present one-day symposium on the importance gathering such information and the needs and challenges unique to different environments.

Greening of the Navy & Ports

Southern California is home to numerous US Navy installations ranging from Ventura to south San Diego and three major ports. Under the leadership of Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus, the U.S. Navy is leading the way within the Department of Defense with its sustainability initiative and commitment to the Greening of the Navy. Each of the main ports (Long Beach, Los Angeles, and San Diego) also has strong commitments to greater environmental stewardship. Taken together, this represents considerable opportunity, both economic and environmental.

Oceans & Weather Impacting Business & Infrastructure

As part of its on-going seminar series, The Maritime Alliance is planning a one day seminar on “Oceans & Weather Impacting Business and Infrastructure.” This seminar will focus on leading edge hardware, software and techniques and their usage to monitor, understand, and predict environmental and ecological changes that will impact business and coastal infrastructure over the coming decades. In addition, part of the program will include current analysis being undertaken by universities and study groups in the region that may result in recommendations to stakeholders and government.

While focused primarily on the San Diego / northern Baja, California coastal environment in the Mega-Region, the seminar and exhibitors will be relevant to coastal zones around the world and to “blue water” applications (for example, fishing, shipping, large scale floating platforms, etc.).

Participants and attendees are expected to include representatives of companies, government, military, non-profits, universities, and others interested in this important topic from Mexico, the U.S. and other countries.

The Maritime Alliance is pleased to host the 2nd annual Maritime Business and Technology Summit & Exposition, Nov. 16-17, 2010, in San Diego, CA.
